A handcrafted brooch, capturing the poised energy of a golden leopard mid-pounce—an auspicious creature from ancient Chinese lore, symbolizing swift success—through the ancient arts of hand-carved wax, lost-wax bronze casting, and the drizzled gold technique on natural black lacquer.

We began by sculpting a golden leopard in wax, shaping every detail by hand.Through the ancient lost-wax casting process, this wax original was transformed into a leopard in solid brass.

Then, using the technique of drizzling brass powder onto natural lacquer—inspired by the rhythmic gestures of Eastern calligraphy—we applied layer upon layer, stroke by stroke, followed by repeated polishing,to recreate the leopard's coat with spots that shimmer like ancient coins.

Materials

Brass – Lost-wax cast. Hand-carved in wax, sacrificed to fire, reborn in metal.

Natural Black Urushi Lacquer – Layer upon layer, patiently polished—until the black holds light like still water. Depth that only time can create.

Brass Lacquer – The "drizzled gold" technique. Brass powder mixed with raw urushi, then painted stroke by stroke onto the black surface—like droplets of gold, frozen in time.

Care Tips for Urushi Lacquer Jewelry
